They can also decide to retire at 65 because they can already start collecting Social Security at that age. Qualifications For Medicare of People Under 65 
People age below 65 who are diagnosed with end-stage renal disease or amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) are automatically qualified for Medicare upon diagnosis. However, some people are required to wait for five months before disability benefits. 

• If the individual is under 65 and has received disability benefits from Social Security for 24 months, they will automatically get Medicare Part A and B.
• Suppose the individual is a federal, state, or local government employee with disabilities that do not have Social Security or Railroad Retirement benefits. In that case, they may still be eligible for Medicare two years after they qualify for disability.

Medicare under 65 with ALS
The average age that individuals can receive an ALS diagnosis is 55 years old. In conclusion, people with ALS are diagnosed even before they reach the required Medicare age of 65. Fortunately, if they have ALS, people can automatically get Medicare Part A and Medicare Part B. If they are eligible for Medicare because of ALS, they will be eligible for Medicare for the rest of their lives.

Medicare under 65 with ESRD
For people with end-stage renal disease, they can get Medicare at any age. ESRD means that their kidneys no longer work, need regular dialysis, or need a kidney transplant. Although, they generally need to sign up through Social Security because they are not automatically enrolled.

Medicare Coverage Options Under 65 and Disabled
For Medicare Advantage and prescription drug coverage, their eligibility is the same as if they are over 65 years old. 

• For Medicare Part C, an individual needs to have Medicare Part A and Part B first.
• For a stand-alone Medicare Part D, they need to have Medicare Part A or Part B.
• In the case of both plans, they need to reside within the plan's service area.
